History
In 1980 chance and good fortune brought together three men
who shared a common vision and the ambition and know-how to make it a
reality. That vision was to build a new and dynamic organization
based on the 15 years' experience they'd gained in the screw machine
industry: Stephen White, Manufacturing Manager, raised in the foothills of
the Berkshires and trained in the tradition of Yankee ingenuity and self
reliance; Robert Cermola, a talented Tool Designer and Layout Expert,
schooled in the busy job shops of The Naugatuck Valley, and Manuel Fernandes,
born in the mountains of Portugal, a natural mechanic and Set-up
Specialist. Each contributed his unique expertise to power the
engine that became Quality Automatics.
Like so many entrepreneurial start-ups in the industry,
the company was born in a garage where the three owners ran several older
model machines at night and weekends. Quality Automatics soon earned
the respect of customers looking for a supplier who could help them stay
competitive in an ever tougher business environment. The new company
turned quotes around in 24 hours, bid low, made parts to print and shipped
on time.
New customers with more jobs required additional capacity
and a new location. In 1981 Quality Automatics moved to a 10,000
square foot factory in Oakville, Connecticut and put a dozen Davenports to
work. Now the three principals focused full-time on developing the
manufacturing operation to its fullest potential. Their simple
formula for achieving customer satisfaction proved successful. By 1990
they had doubled machine capacity and run out of floor space.
Opportunely, an adjacent building became available,
providing the company with room to add additional machinery for special
secondary operations, expanding the Quality Assurance facilities and
increasing the primary manufacturing equipment by 50%. The ten additional,
new Davenport Multi-spindles provide the company with some of the best
equipment in the industry. With the ability to maintain demanding
tolerances at high production rates, Quality Automatics now solicits
inquires from users with demanding hi-tech, high volume requirements.
The three men who founded the company over twenty years
ago are on the job at 7:00 a.m. every morning, proud of their
accomplishment to date searching for new and better ways to serve you,
their customer.
